Welcome!
If this is your first time, why not start here.
I’m Andy, nice to meet you.
I started this blog to answer a question - how do I live well in Barnes during this climate emergency?
My stories are rooted in Barnes. The place I live, think, walk, bike and love to call home. In my first post, I explain how I got here: the blog’s origins, my background, and why I’m more curious than qualified.
The heart of the blog is the Manifesto. This is where you'll find my view of future possibilities. There are several parts to this. Perhaps you'd like to the skip to the list of specific proposals. Remember to return, though. A new one is published at least every month.
These ideas are rooted in evidence, designed for people, and alive to the realities of climate and community alike. That is why every few weeks, I pause to ask: What have I learnt? Are these stories helping me find practical answers to that core question? You’ll find my most recent reflections here.
I am also keen to learn new skills while creating this blog. I’m sharing how I have gone about creating this blog. This is the most recent production report.
You could just dive in.
Take climate change. I try to focus not on the abstract but how it will affect life in Barnes. Richmond council for example, have painted a vivid picture of what life in the borough could be like over the next fifteen years.
Transport is another recurring theme. Hammersmith Bridge has a special place in this blog. Its closure was the trigger for writing this blog. You’ll find regular updates on the Bridge. What do we know about the traffic patterns locally since the Bridge has been closed? What are the options available to central government as it considers whether to restore cars to the Bridge? I wonder what our cars say about us and how people react to traffic reduction schemes. I take the council to task for learning to love SUVs.
Alternatively you can join me in 2030, walking Thames to Thames. The Terrace is another important landmark in this blog so it was good to report on Richmond council’s most recent decision. return to read the latest.
I hope this is useful and thought-provoking. I am always interested in what you have to say, so please, do drop me a line. Friendly response guaranteed.
Until then, enjoy.
Andy
