I’m Andy, nice to meet you.
I started this blog to answer a question - how do I live my best life in the world’s greatest city during this climate emergency?
My stories are rooted in Barnes and Mortlake. The place I live, think, walk, bike and love to call home. In my first post, I explain how I got here: the blog’s origins, my background, and why I’m more curious than qualified.
The heart of the blog is the Manifesto. This is where you'll find my view of future possibilities. There are several parts to this. Perhaps you'd like to the skip to the list of specific proposals. Remember to return, though. A new one is published every week.
These ideas are rooted in evidence, designed for people, and alive to the realities of climate and community alike. That is why every few weeks, I pause to ask: What have I learnt? Are these stories helping me find practical answers to that core question? You’ll find my most recent reflections here.
I am also keen to learn new skills while creating this blog. I’m sharing how I have gone about creating this blog. This is the most recent production report.
You could just dive in.
Take climate change. I try to focus not on the abstract but how it will affect life in Barnes and Mortlake. A recent report by Richmond council for example, painted a vivid picture of what life in the borough could be like over the next fifteen years.
Transport is another recurring theme. The future of Hammersmith Bridge features heavily. What are the options available to central government as it considers whether to restore cars to the Bridge? I wonder what our cars say about us and how people react to traffic reduction schemes. I take the council to task for learning to love SUVs.
Alternatively you can join me in 2030, walking Thames to Thames as I wonder how to improve The Terrace in Barnes.
I am not ignoring Mortlake. I am using the magnificent Mortlake Mash-Up as my guide to better understanding what to do south of White Hart Lane.
I publish three stories every week, so do please return to read the latest.

I hope this is useful and thought-provoking. I am always interested in what you have to say, so please, do drop me a line. Friendly response guaranteed.
Until then, enjoy.
Andy
