London Growth Plan passes its first major test
The plan to ‘turbo-charge’ productivity and so transform the city, was described as a “100-page burst of welcome positivity” - story 55
In a promising early indicator for City Hall and its partners, the London Growth Plan has received a broadly positive reception following its release last month. Billed as an ambitious strategy to "turbo-charge" productivity and reinvigorate the capital’s economic dynamism, the has been welcomed by many as a bold, forward-thinking initiative.
The plan — a collaborative effort between the Mayor of London, London Councils (a cross-party body representing local authorities), and a host of industry stakeholders — aims to reverse stagnating productivity trends and reinvest in long-term growth across the city. It outlines targeted reforms in infrastructure, housing, and workforce development.
In a previous report, attention was drawn to the notable omission of Hammersmith Bridge, a long-standing infrastructure concern.
This podcasts usefully summarises the plan, identifying the its key elements as well as some of the surprising details: for instance, the average age of London’s bricklayers. This underscores a recurring theme within the plan — the urgent need to attract and train a new generation of skilled workers to future-proof the city’s labor force.
This podcast hit a sweet spot.
We have each a different learning preference. I like to read something, then hear or watch a discussion before returning to the document. This is one of the reasons I liked this podcast. It fit with my preferences.
Another reason for enjoying this prodcast - its brevity. This is a rich exchange between four people who know their stuff. I was satiated after thirty six minutes. Not overwhelmed. I wish other podcasters and YouTube content creators would show such consideration.
