Mortlake Mash-Up
Ignore the alliteration, this could be a real force for change in the years to come - story 42
This is such a good idea.
The Mortlake Mashup is a community-driven initiative with serious intent. It wants to help shape the future of the area around Mortlake.
If it achieves even a fraction of the success of its counterpart in the neighbouring ward - Barnes Ponder - it could become a defining force in the coming decade.
These two initiatives cover an area which makes up about three-quarters of that covered by this blog.
Like many areas across the capital, this corner of London has a deeply engaged base of residents, businesses, and organisations eager to contribute to meaningful change. But the Mash-Up isn’t just about Mortlake—it spans a much larger area. In electoral this is the Mortlake and Barnes Common ward.
For years, much of Mortlake’s civic energy has been consumed by the ongoing debate over the proposed Mortlake Brewery development—a contentious project that, like Hammersmith Bridge, has galvanised public opinion. That battle isn’t over, nor should it be. But the Mortlake Mash-Up presents an opportunity to step back and think more broadly about what kind of future this area should have.
I live in this area. It is a big part of this blog’s target area. But my support is prompted by more than that. The Mash-Up shares the same motivation. The words below match very closely with the reasons I think we need to change the nature of this corner of London.
I can’t make the launch event on Saturday 15 March. I am travelling. But I will be following up. In the meantime, they are asking for input. Read to the bottom of this page for instructions.
