I had forgotten about this. Boris had a thing for bridges, indeed any sort of transportation.
Evidence of that was in this proposal for another 13 bridges and tunnels across the Thames.
None directly affected Barnes and Mortlake - the nearest was in Fulham.
Interesting to see the fabled Garden Bridge was for pedestrians and cyclists, only.
Meanwhile, although the story lives on the BBC news archive, it has removed from the TfL website.
Of course one of these tunnels opened earlier this week - the Silvertown tunnel, a twin-bore tunnel connecting Silvertown on the north side to the Blackwall Tunnel Approach on the south.
The Lower Thames Crossing, has recently been given support by the UK goverment. This would be a new road crossing linking Essex and Kent.
